Small cell technology has become the center of many companies’ current plans for innovation. One of the companies deeply involved in small cell is Alcatel-Lucent. Alcatel-Lucent chose Siklu millimeter wave radios to enhance their small cells backhaul portfolio.
This technology replaces the need for massive cell towers and heavy infrastructure in areas where towers cannot be built. Every day, small cell technology is seemingly more convenient for meeting the demands of network customers worldwide.
Siklu is a privately held company that was founded in 2008 and is based near Tel Aviv, Israel. The have invented their own all-silicon radio and sell their products at a low cost, making them increasingly popular. Alcatel-Lucent has chosen their millimeter radio equipment to support their 9500 MPR family. These devices run in the 60 and 80 GHz bands range and are made for high-capacity, short-range, and highly dense environments.
Alcatel-Lucent’s 9500 MPR family is just a segment of their multi-technology Mobile Backhaul platform, which provides reliable flexibility, scalability, and operation simplicity. Together the two companies will allow for full outdoor wireless small cell backhaul and long haul applications that will be managed by the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM platform. Siklu will be supplying their various models of EtherHaul millimeter wave radios in order to achieve gigabit throughput for all of Alcatel-Lucent’s small cell sites.
